Scrapfit #23, Weaving Tutorial

Scrapfit Weekend Warm Up #23... Use Kraft Cardstock.
Well that is easy.. and I love the look of Kraft.

With this super page I also did a Tutorial about Weaving at My Sketch World for January where I am the Video Tutorial DT. I love sharing some of the things I do monthly with you.

Weaving is a method of fabric production in which two distinct sets of yarns or threads are interlaced at right angles to form a fabric or cloth. The other methods are knitting, lace making and felting. The longitudinal threads are called the warp and the lateral threads are the weft or filling. The method in which these threads are inter woven affects the characteristics of the cloth.

All these pages show you that there are many different patterns to give unique and amazing designs.

Some are more involved and take more concentration with the row changes but look how fabulous they look when weaved.
Well I am so glad you could join me, Bev today. I thought with all the talk of the New Year, resolutions etc and also so much talk of using up some of last years stash...... what a better way to use scrap than to slice those pieces into strips and weave them. And then the next thing is how would you use them on a layout page?
Lucy Chesna's Design Layout Sketch above for January 2012 had border clusters on top right and left bottom. Well instead I thought we'd try some weaving in each of these corners.

So starting with scraps that are cut into equal pieces I glued just the edge to the outer edge of background piece.
Then doing the easiest of the weaves 1st row under and over and 2nd row over and under... I continued this pattern repeatedly until I had enough to fill the corner.

I then did the other corner too. The outer edges looked great just being left at staggered lengths. I glued the outer sections down . The center section was held very tight by the weaving.

From there I added the main photo with circular accent and extra inked matting for colour.

So now the fun part.. adding all the extra strips, accents, flowers, buttons, some twine added to some flowers, a couple cute butterflies and finished it off with stamped corners and some stitching in the corners.
As you can see a plain Ktaft cardstock background with weaving added so much colour, texture and dimension to the page and I used up some stash too.
I would love to see you make a project using weaving of that stash. It would also be great if you would some of the other patterns from above.

those pattern papers are so pretty against the kraft cardstock! Love the weaving! I didn't realize you could get a herringbone pattern with weaving. Might have to figure that pattern out today!
